Bloomsburg Falls to Lock Haven at NCAA Regionals; Play Monday for Title
BOX SCORE
SHIPPENSBURG--Lock Haven's Julie Robitaille hit a grand slam in the fourth inning for the only runs of the game as the Lady Eagles beat Bloomsburg University, 4-0, on Sunday at the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional Softball championship.
The two teams will meet again on Monday at Shippensburg University at 11 a.m. for the regional title and the right to advance to the NCAA championship round starting on Thursday in Salem, VA.
Runs and hits were hard to come by in the game. Bloomsburg's Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) opened the game with a single and moved to second on a bunt. However, that's as afar as she got and was left stranded. Lock Haven also had a runner on in the bottom of the first, but also could not score.
Neither team would get on base again till the bottom of the fourth inning when the Lady Eagles a single and two walks off of Bloomsburg pitcher Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) to load the bases with just one out. Robitaille then homered down the left field line making it a 4-0 game. It was one of just three hits for the Lady Eagles in the game.
In the sixth, Reed singled with two outs for the Huskies, but she was erased on a fielder's choice to end the inning. In the seventh, the Huskies put one runner on with one out, but could not score.
Lynn finished with 10 strikeouts and two walks for the Huskies, now 38-16, while Reed had both Bloomsburg hits going 2-3.
